about

...to celebrate the life of Robert Burns, collection of some of his best poems, recited by actor & theatre director - Iain Cuthbertson.
interwoven with a selection of the classic Scots ballads sung by the very best traditional singers, including Jeannie Robertson, Lizzie Higgins, Betsy Whyte, Jane Turriff, John Strachan, Jimmy MacBeath, John Adams, John MacDonald, Bella Higgins, Duncan MacPhee, Nellie MacGregor, Minnie Haman, Sheila MacGregor, Betsy Johnstone, Willie Whyte, Geordie Robertson, Jessie Murray, Willie Edward, Campbell MacLean, Margaret Stewart and Willie Scott.... now sadly almost all gone...

BURNS NIGHT

Known in medieval Celtic culture as a story teller, verse maker and composer, the word ‘Bard’ has become synonymous with the world’s greatest poets. However, few are as celebrated as Scotland’s own ‘National Bard’, Robert Burns, who we pay tribute to on 25 January each year...
each year people in Scotland and around the globe celebrate the life, works and legacy of one of our greatest storytellers - Robert Burns.

The first Burns supper is thought to have taken place over 200 years ago in 1801, where friends of the late poet came together to raise a toast to his influential and entertaining poetry and writing.

Today, many of these Burns Night traditions remain intact, such as enjoying whisky, haggis and of course a Burns poem or two. But Scotland is a country that is constantly evolving and looking to the future, from food and drink innovations to modern twists on traditional music.
